Community Connections

Benefits of connecting with your community

Many people may experience a loss of connection to others due to job loss, retirement, parenting, caregiving, illness or disability.  Social isolation can have a significant impact on our health and well being.  Connecting with your community can help you expand your social network, gain new skills and find a purpose.  For those who feel ready to engage in social activities in their community, we can assist you to find the right fit by identifying your unique strengths, personal values and individual needs.  Our support will ensure that your skills, interests and abilities are matched with meaningful and enjoyable activities in your community.

Volunteering

  • Volunteering is great way to connect with others, get to know people in your community and build supportive relationships.
  • As a volunteer, you can make a difference in the lives of others and add meaning and a sense of purpose to your life.
  • Volunteer associations and community groups offer a wide variety of opportunities to explore your interests, gain new skills and develop your current abilities.
  • Volunteering can provide a pathway to meaningful employment if you are a job seeker, recent graduate or considering a new career.

Fitness and Recreation

  • Physical activity can enhance your psychological and emotional well being as well as maintain or improve your level of fitness.
  • Regular activity adds structure and routine to your day and helps to develop healthy habits that reduce the risk of illness and disease.
  • The support and encouragement of other group members can increase your motivation and commitment to reaching your goals.
  • By joining a fitness class, activity club or hobby group, you can share your knowledge and interests with others and learn from those who are more experienced.
